RRCpacketSniffer

RRCpacketSniffer is an android application which can be used for capturing tcp udp and icmp data packets and resulting RRC state transitions, simultaneously.

Description

Quantifying an application’s signaling efficiency requires information about:

The data packets that were exchanged.

Corresponding RRC state transitions.

Unlike the existing applications and tools, this application neither requires any special hardware, nor retrieves RRC state in an offline manner using a simulator. The functionality of the tool is split into two parts, the Packet Sniffer and the RRC State Logger.

Packet Sniffer

The packet sniffer uses C_packetCapture a binary executable of libpcap, built using libpcap source code and Android NDK. The executable is launched in a shell with superuser privileges. The packet sniffer enables us to capture all uplink and downlink packets associated with a network interface, and stores the packet timestamp and header information corresponding to IP, UDP, TCP, and ICMP protocols, in a log.text file.

RRC State Logger

For Retrieving RRC States, we adopt a novel approach to find and record the actual RRC state of the device at any given instant. Android Secret codes are required to switch to RRC service mode. The resulting RRC state transitions with timestamp are stored in a dump.txt file on sdcard.Currently we have secret codes for limited samsung devices, though a wide variety of secret codes are available for different manufacturers.

The detailed description of calculating an application's signalling efficiency from the data collected using our app (RRCpacketSniffer) has been described in this paper "Android phone based appraisal of app behavior on cell networks".

Devices Supported

Currently the application supports all Samsung devices ranging from Galaxy S to Galaxy S5. We are working on getting support for other brand devices as well. All devices would require root permission.

Quantifier la signalisation e ffi cacité d'une application nécessite d'informations sur:

Les paquets de données qui ont été échangées.

Transitions d'état RRC correspondant.

Contrairement aux applications et outils existants, cette application ne nécessite aucun matériel spécial, ni récupère état RRC dans un ffl o ine manière en utilisant un simulateur. La fonctionnalité de l'outil est divisé en deux parties, le Packet Sniffer et la CRR État Logger.

Packet Sniffer

Le ff er paquet de SNI utilise C_packetCapture un exécutable binaire de libpcap, construit en utilisant le code source libpcap et Android NDK. L'exécutable est lancé dans un shell avec les privilèges du superutilisateur. Le ff er paquet de SNI nous permet de capturer tous les paquets de liaison montante et descendante associés à une interface réseau, et stocke l'horodatage de paquets et en-tête des informations correspondant à IP, UDP, TCP, ICMP et des protocoles, dans un log.text fi chier.

RRC État Logger

Pour Récupération CRR-Unis, nous adoptons une nouvelle approche pour fi e et enregistrer l'état RRC réel de l'appareil à un instant donné. Les codes secrets Android sont nécessaires pour passer en mode de service CRR. Les transitions d'état RRC résultant avec timestamp sont stockées dans un fichier de dump.txt sur sdcard.Currently nous avons des codes secrets pour les appareils Samsung limitées, mais une grande variété de codes secrets sont disponibles pour différents fabricants.

La description détaillée de calcul de l'efficacité de signalisation à partir des données d'une application recueillies à l'aide notre application (RRCpacketSniffer) a été décrit dans le présent document "téléphone Android évaluation du comportement de l'application sur les réseaux cellulaires à base".

Périphériques pris en charge

Actuellement, l'application prend en charge tous les appareils Samsung allant de Galaxy S Galaxy S5. Nous travaillons sur l'obtention de soutien à d'autres appareils de la marque ainsi. Tous les appareils nécessiteraient l'autorisation root.
